Sell your Steam gift card
Giftreo buys Steam wallet gift cards at 95% of face value — a flat 5% fee, the same on every code we take — and pays in cryptocurrency. A 100 USD card pays out 95.00 USD, a 50 USD card pays 47.50 USD, and a 20 USD card pays 19.00 USD. USD and EUR codes are both accepted as long as they are unredeemed. Payment goes out about an hour after the code is verified.

A Steam wallet card is a top-up code, not a game. Redeem it and the amount lands in your Steam Wallet, where it buys anything on the store: games, DLC, in-game items, hardware accessories. The credit is flexible once it is inside an account. Getting it into the right account is the part that trips people up, because a wallet code is tied to the currency and region of the account it is meant for.
So the codes pile up with people who cannot use them. A US relative buys a USD code for someone whose Steam account runs in euros. A gift arrives for someone who plays on console and has no Steam library. Wallet codes do not expire, so there is never a reason to act. Selling at 95% turns a 50 USD code you cannot redeem into 47.50 USD of crypto.
What to check before selling Steam
Steam wallet codes are region-bound and currency-bound at once. A USD code tops up an account whose wallet is in USD; a EUR code tops up a euro account. Enter the wrong one and Steam refuses it with a region error — no conversion, no support override, and no way to change your wallet currency to match. Valve also blocks credit from moving between accounts once redeemed, which is why a code is worth something to a buyer and an account balance is worth nothing.
The code is 15 alphanumeric characters in three blocks, under a scratch panel or delivered as text. It is all or nothing: a wallet code redeems in full or not at all, so there is no partly used Steam code — it is either intact and worth 95%, or spent and worth nothing to anyone. That keeps the rejection reasons simple. A code fails when it has already been redeemed, when the retailer never activated the card at the till, when the scratch panel destroyed a character, or when Valve voided it after a chargeback. We buy only from the person who legitimately holds the code, and Giftreo never asks for one by email or direct message.
How to sell a Steam gift card
- 1Confirm the code is unredeemed and note its currency — a USD code and a EUR code are not interchangeable.
- 2Select Steam on the sell page and enter the face value you hold: 20, 50 and 100 are the standard amounts.
- 3Submit the 15-character wallet code through the form on this page, and do not enter it in Steam first.
- 4Give us a wallet address. Once the code verifies, 95% of the face value is sent in crypto, usually within about an hour.

Steam resale: your questions
- Is selling a Steam wallet code legal?
- Selling a code you own is a lawful private transaction. Selling one you do not own is not, and it also does not work: Valve voids codes linked to fraud or a reversed payment, and voided codes fail verification here. This is about the code itself — trading Steam accounts is a separate matter and not something we do.
- Can I sell a code that is partly used?
- There is no partly used Steam code. Wallet codes redeem in one shot, so a code is either intact and worth 95% of face value, or already applied and worth nothing to a buyer. Wallet balance sitting in your own Steam account cannot be sold either, because Valve does not let credit move between accounts.
- Which regions do you accept codes from?
- USD and EUR wallet codes, both at 95% — the flat rate we pay right across the catalogue. Say which you hold, since we verify them separately. Codes issued for other regional storefronts are not bought at the moment — verification is unreliable enough there that we would rather refuse than quote a rate we cannot honour.
- How long does payment actually take?
- Around an hour from the moment we receive the code. Verification takes most of that and the crypto send takes minutes. If a code needs manual review it runs longer, and we say so rather than leaving you refreshing a wallet.
- What if my code is rejected, and do you need ID?
- A rejected code is returned to you unredeemed, with the reason we found — usually already redeemed, never activated at the till, or voided after a chargeback. We do not keep or resell a code we could not verify. No documents are needed for ordinary sales; an email address and a wallet address are enough.
✱ Selling safely
We only accept codes you legitimately own. Giftreo never contacts you to ask for a code by email or private message — if someone does, it is not us. Codes are sent over HTTPS to our verification desk and are never shown back to you in full.
