An Amazon gift card is close to universal in what it buys and completely rigid about where. The balance covers electronics, groceries, books and most third-party sellers, but only on the single marketplace the card was issued for. Almost everyone selling one is stuck on exactly that. A relative in the United States sends a USD card to someone who orders from amazon.fr. A work reward lands on the wrong storefront. Amazon balances do not expire, so no deadline ever forces a decision, and the code stays in an inbox for years doing nothing. What to check before selling Amazon
The region lock is the entire story with Amazon. A US-denominated card funds amazon.com and nothing else; a euro card funds the European stores such as amazon.fr, amazon.de and amazon.es. There is no transfer between them and no support exception that moves a balance across marketplaces — a mismatched code simply fails when you try to add it. Tell us which marketplace the card belongs to when you submit it. USD and EUR are both bought at 95% — the flat rate we pay right across the catalogue — but they are verified through different channels.
Amazon claim codes are alphanumeric, and once a code is applied to an account it cannot be removed: the balance belongs to that account permanently. So do not redeem a card you intend to sell. Partial balances are bought at 95% of what remains — a 200 USD card with 150 USD left pays 142.50 USD. Codes fail for four familiar reasons: already applied to an account, never activated at the register, a damaged scratch panel with unreadable characters, or a balance locked by Amazon after a chargeback. - Is selling an Amazon gift card legal?
- Yes. A card you were given or bought is your property, and reselling it is a normal private transaction in the US and across the EU. Selling a card you do not own is a different matter — one obtained by fraud or paid for with someone else's card. Amazon freezes those balances anyway, and they fail our verification.
- What if some of the balance is already spent?
- Partial balances are welcome. We pay 95% of the amount that actually remains, not of the face value: 150 USD left on a 200 USD card pays 142.50 USD. Declare the remaining balance as accurately as you can. If verification returns a different figure, we pay on the verified amount and tell you what we found.
- How quickly does the money arrive?
- Typically about an hour from the moment the code reaches us. Verification is the slow part; the crypto transfer takes minutes. If a card lands in manual review we say so rather than leaving you guessing.
- What happens if my code is rejected?
- You are told which check failed and the card comes back to you unused — a rejected code is not kept, redeemed or resold. The common causes are a code already applied to an account, a card never activated at the register, and a balance locked after a chargeback. Nothing is paid, and nothing is taken.
- Can I sell several cards at once, and do you need ID?
- Several cards is fine: list each with its marketplace and balance, and each is verified on its own. Six 50 USD cards pay the same 95% as one 300 USD balance. We ask for an email address and a wallet address, not documents. For unusually large volumes we ask where the cards came from.
